Ocracoke Island

Wed/Thur, July 14, 15, 2010 - Ocracoke Island, Outer Banks, NC

With the TPLESS69 back on the road, we headed out on Hwy 12 to catch the ferry from Hatteras to Ocracoke Island.  God I love the Outer Banks.  The coastal highway through the dunes is simply breathtaking.  We stopped to enjoy a walk on the beach and enjoy some of the solitude offered.  Riding through the small towns of the Outer Banks and away from the tourist areas of Kitty Hawk and Nags Head is a must for anyone that makes the trek to the Outer Banks.  We pulled into catch the ferry and enjoyed the short ride across the sound.  The sun was working its way through breaks in the clouds and everything was looking up.  We pulled the Vert into the Anchorage Inn and Marina, where she would rest for a full two days.  The small, quaint village of Ocracoke requires nothing more than some limber legs, possibly a bike, or if really needed a golf cart (many to rent).  First things first, we needed a much deserved refreshment after our early experience.  So it was off to Howard's Pub and Raw Bar.   The first Bloody Mary couldn't have tasted any better.  Now it was time to switch and try out some of the more than 200 beers to choose from.  A great happy hour and place to relax was on the Pub's rooftop overlooking the sound and island, making it all the sweeter.  After a few hundred or so beers (yeah, I wish), we started back towards the inn and found a nice little seafood restraunt that had live entertainment.  If we closed our eyes and listened, you would have surely thought you were being entertained by the likes of JT and Carol King (not to mention a few others).  The threesome folk group was awesome and they even mixed in some good ole rock-n-roll tunes.  Uh, the food was pretty good to.  Although my lovely spouse was still being her usual rabbit and looking for salads.  What a night watching the boats come back in with their daily catches and the quiet breezes of the ocean sweeping away the heat of the day.  Awesome is the only way I can describe our stay in Ocracoke.  If you've never been to the Outer Banks...just do it!!!  Enjoy the pics...
